Broad-winged Hawk Season Wrap-Up
September 1, 2025

What an incredible 2025 season – our Broad-winged Hawk project was very successful!
This season’s highlights:
- Banded 20 hawks as part of our ongoing blood parasite research with the Center for Wild Bird Rehabilitation
- Tested birds for harmful substances like rodenticides and lead poisoning
- Collaborated with Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Pennsylvania on color banding studies
- Discovered and monitored 5 nests – including one right between VINS and the gorge!
- 4 out of 5 nests successfully fledged young birds
What’s next?
We’re heading up to our hawk watch at Mt. Ascutney State Park in September to count migrating Broad-winged Hawks. Keep an eye out for updates on those perfect migration weather days.
This research helps us better understand and protect these amazing raptors. Thanks to everyone who supports our conservation work!
